Introductions

Hello, my name is Ashlee Smith and this is my story.

  1. BACKGROUND
I've lived in Louisiana, Tennessee, Virginia/DC Metro Area, and now Texas. I love learning about lineages and family history, so here's a bit about my background. My mom is from Louisiana and I'm learning how to master the perfect gumbo. My dad lived in Italy for a few years as a kid with his family, and I could eat pasta or gumbo every meal of every day.

  2. HAPPY WIFE, MOM-TO-BE, & MID-CENTURY HOME OWNER
I married my swing dance partner and the man of my dreams in September 2017 in an intimate ceremony in Northern California. We live in a mid-century home built in 1951 and have loved making it our own. We’re expecting our first son this October!

  3. FOOD
I love to cook fancy meals on weeknights. You won't find any box mixes in my pantry since I prefer to take the long way around. I have allergies to shellfish, peanuts, and trout, so I'm currently fascinated with fixing meals that are both healthy and don't mess with my system. Eating out has proven difficult, so I've gotta go somewhere. I'm not a professional food stylist, but I may start sharing some of my favorite and well tested recipes as the months go on.

  4. WORK
I have been a photographer and videographer at Southwest Airlines since 2012. I spend my days traveling across the system for assignments. To boot, I'm also a petite female filmmaker. I carry my own gear (but gladly say yes when someone offers to help.). An anomaly in the industry, I am a one-[wo]man-band on the vast majority of my assignments. On occasion I'll direct or produce a shoot and get to work with a crew, but mostly, it's me start to finish. I might share some insights on being a woman behind the camera, aviation life, travel tips, and behind the scenes of some of my favorite shoots.

  5. TRAVEL
Working for an airline, you have to love travel. When I started at Southwest, I traveled on standby every weekend. I've since settled down a bit, but I love to explore as much as I can. When I travel, I tend to dislike major tourist destinations and prefer side alleys, small towns, and local restaurants. Travel will likely be my primary blog focus.

  6. FASHION
Okay, I admit it, I looooove clothes. Half of my wardrobe is vintage and the other half is very minimalist black and white. I wear high waisted pants and 20's flutter sleeves on a regular basis and turtlenecks are my jam. Give me a scarf or a hat and we're in business. With my love for vintage shopping and estate sales, expect to see a few posts on fashion choices as well. The big thing for me is that anything I wear to work has to be functional and fashionable.
